A Redmond man has been charged with providing alcohol and drugs to two 17-year-old employees and assaulting the mother of one of the boys.
Edward Rene Bales, 43, who owns Calabrese Cleaning in Redmond, was arraigned in Deschutes County Circuit Court on Tuesday on charges of harassment, coercion and two counts each of furnishing alcohol to an intoxicated person, delivering marijuana to a person under 18 and delivering a controlled substance to a person under 18.
Bales allegedly provided marijuana, alcohol and Adderall to the two teenage employees, both male, on multiple occasions, according to Deputy District Attorney Kandy Gies. Bales allegedly grabbed and then shoved the mother of one of the two employees after she confronted him last week.
Deschutes County Circuit Judge Wells Ashby set Bales’ bail at $25,000 and mandated that if released Bales must have no contact with the victims, consume neither illegal drugs nor alcohol and avoid places where those items are available.
Bales paid 10 percent of the bail amount and was released shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Deschutes County jail.
Bales appeared in court by video from the jail, where he was booked late Monday night.
Bales told the court he is the sole breadwinner for his wife and his daughter, who is terminally ill.
“I have a business to run,” Bales said.
Bales is scheduled to be arraigned on indictment at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 14.
