RUGBY
COCC wins opener — The Central Oregon Community College Rugby Football Club won its opening match of the season Saturday, topping Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls 24-14. Dalton Chambers scored 14 points for the visiting Bobcats and Levi Penter and Trevor Prater each scored five points. COCC hosts Seattle University at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bend Rugby Club takes league match — Mike Hunter scored two tries, four conversions and two penalty kicks Saturday to lead the Bend Rugby Club to a 44-22 victory over the Oregon Sports Union in Portland. Kevin Baker, Taylor Ulbricht, Jerel Pulicicchio and Shane Lamumin each added a try for the Roughriders, who improved to 2-1-1 in league play and 3-2-1 overall. Bend Rugby ends the fall regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday with a home match at High Desert Middle School.
BASKETBALL
Adult leagues starting — Registration for the Bend Park & Recreation District’s adult basketball leagues is set for Oct. 17. Three different leagues will be offered this winter: an 18-and-over women’s league, an 18-and-over men’s league, and a 35-and-over men’s league. Each team will play 12 regular-season games before a year-end, single-game elimination tournament. Seasons run from Nov. 2 to March 15 and games will be played on Sunday afternoons.
