La Pine man dies in crash on Paulina Lake Road

A La Pine man has died of injuries he received in a single vehicle crash early today .
Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies, state troopers and the La Pine Fire Department responded to a report of an injured man lying by Paulina Lake Road at around 7:22 a.m..
Nickolas Hurlbut, 29, of La Pine, apparently failed to negotiate a left turn off Paulina Lake Road near milepost 10, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
The vehicle went airborne and came to rest in an embankment next to the road, according to the sheriff’s office. Hurlbut walked about three-quarters of a mile toward La Pine. He was spotted by a passing motorist who called 911.
According to the sheriff’s office, Hurlbut was not wearing a seat belt and speed may have been a factor in the crash.
After receiving medical treatment at the scene, Hurlbut was flown by air ambulance to St. Charles Bend, where he died of his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
