Volunteers from the American Red Cross Cascades Region have responded to the needs of three La Pine residents after a fire displaced them from their mobile home Tuesday afternoon.
The La Pine Rural Fire District responded to the fire at about 3 p.m. Tuesday at 15505 Brooks Lane. None of the residents were home at the time of the fire, but a black Labrador was stuck inside. It was eventually rescued by firefighters.
The Red Cross said Wednesday it is providing lodging in Deschutes County, as well as food, clothing, and other services to the three residents of the mobile home.
Capt. Fred Franklin said Wednesday the fire is believed to have begun where two TVs were stacked with a X-Box console. There was significant damage in that area, he said, and up into the attic.
“It essentially burned a long time in that corner,” said Franklin. He added that there was massive smoke damage and heat damage through the entire structure.
The dog was lethargic and suffering from smoke inhalation when firefighters found the pet. Franklin said one firefighter used a utility strap to make a leash and coax the dog outside where it was given oxygen and water.
Franklin said the pet oxygen mask, one of three used by the fire district, was donated three years ago by Wag’n Enterprises.
The fire lasted for about two hours with crews from the La Pine fire district, Oregon Department of Forestry and Sunriver Fire Department responding.
