Summit girls soccer starts fast, beats Ridgeview

Maggi McElrath scored two goals and Camille Weaver had two assists as Summit defeated Ridgeview 4-1 in an Intermountain Conference girls soccer match Thursday at Summit High School.

Megan Cornett scored in the 15th minute on an assist from Weaver, and Meghan Day added a goal in the 20th minute, also assisted by Weaver.

Summit claimed a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute when McElrath scored her first goal of the match. Sailor Woodward scored for Ridgeview early in the second half to make it 3-1, but McElrath answered with her second goal of the day, in the 50th minute.

The Storm, ranked fifth in the Class 5A standings, improved to 5-0-1 in the IMC and 8-2-2 overall, while the Ravens fell to 1-5 and 3-8-1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mountain View 7, Redmond 1: Four straight goals by Taryn Poole, two on each side of halftime, allowed the Cougars, No. 8 in Class 5A, to race past the visiting Panthers in an Intermountain Conference matchup. Rylee Dickinson scored twice for the Cougars (3-2 IMC, 6-4 overall), Madison Choffel logged a goal, and Abby Nopp and Savanna Miller each dished out two assists. Leilani Estrada recorded Redmond’s lone score with a goal early in the second half, as the Panthers dropped to 0-6 in league play and 1-9-1 overall.

Estacada 4, Madras 0: MADRAS — The Rangers scored within the first five minutes and then again midway through the first half to take a 2-0 lead by halftime and claim the Tri-Valley Conference win. Despite the loss, White Buffaloes coach Krista Hayes praised the play of her team. “We were really impressed with the way the girls played,” Hayes said. “They played a solid 80 minutes of soccer.” Madras fell to 0-8 in the TVC and 1-11 overall.

Corbett 7, Crook County 0: CORBETT — The Cowgirls dropped to 1-7 in Tri-Valley Conference action and 1-9 overall.

BOYS SOCCER

Summit 4, Ridgeview 0: Conor Galvin’s two goals, both assisted by Michael Scinto, sandwiched a pair of Storm scores to lead Summit to an Intermountain Conference win. Eli Warmenhoven took a pass from Mack Van Der Velde and recorded what Storm coach Ron Kidder described as the “longest shot I’ve seen a high school kid hit; a laser” to provide Summit, No. 2 in Class 5A, with a 2-0 lead. Scinto scored in the 34th minute off an assist from Alex Bowlin, and the Storm improved to 6-0 in the IMC and 10-1-1 overall. Ridgeview slipped to 1-5 in league play and 3-7-1 overall.

Mountain View 10, Redmond 2: By way of forfeit, the Cougars improved to 4-1 in Intermountain Conference play, trailing only Summit in the league standings, and 6-3-1 overall, while the Panthers fell to 0-6 in the IMC, 1-11 overall.

Sisters 7, Junction City 2: JUNCTION CITY — Minam Craven scored twice, and the Outlaws built a 7-0 lead en route to a Sky-Em League victory to clinch a fourth straight league crown. Jadon Bachtold posted a goal and two assists for the Outlaws (8-0 Sky-Em, 9-2 overall), and Justin Harrer had a goal and an assist. Colton Mannhalter, Andreas Pedersen and Billy Biggers each scored for Sisters, which was ranked fourth in Class 4A heading into the contest.

Crook County 6, Corbett 1: PRINEVILLE — Christian Hernandez scored two goals to lead the Cowboys to the Tri-Valley Conference victory. Kohlter Kee, Diego Nunez, Nathan Jones and Josue Badillo all scored as Crook County cruised to the win and improved to 3-4-1 in the TVX and 5-4-1 overall.

Madras 4, Estacada 0: ESTACADA — Gustavo Pacheco scored two goals to lead the White Buffaloes to victory in a Tri-Valley Conference game. David Madrigal and Mario Urieta also scored for Madras, which improved to 6-2 in league play and 8-4 overall. “It didn’t take long for us to get ahead, and we dominated,” said Madras coach Clark Jones. “We wanted to come out and get a good game in, and play team ball, and we did that. We spread the ball around and got good shots.”

Central Christian 3, C.S. Lewis 1: NEWBERG — A hat trick by Caleb Reynolds propelled the Tigers to a Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 6 victory to improve Central Christian to 5-4 in league play and 5-5 overall. Reynolds scored twice in the first half, with assists from Jacob Biever and Bryson Eells, to give the Tigers a 2-0 halftime lead. After the break and following a score by C.S. Lewis, Jun Koo sent a through ball to Reynolds, who netted a goal to all but seal the victory.

VOLLEYBALL

Mountain View 3, Ridgeview 2: Playing without three starters due to injury, the Cougars rallied behind Mikayla Schumacher’s 34 digs and 55 assists for a 20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14 Intermountain Conference win. Sierra Hollister had 20 kills for Mountain View (4-2 IMC), Taeya Boling logged 27 kills, and Katy Mahr totaled 39 digs. Karlee Duncan racked up five blocks, and Mountain View finished with 11 aces as a team. For the Ravens (1-6), Katrina Johnson posted 19 kills, Maddi Remick had 12 kills, and Paige Davis had eight kills and 38 assists. McKenzie Bartlett added five kills for Ridgeview, and Chloe Ross chipped in with four kills.

Crook County 3, Estacada 0: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls capped the regular season in style, blasting the visiting Rangers 25-16, 25-23, 25-6 in both teams’ final Tri-Valley Conference match of the year. Karlee Hollis recorded 10 kills, Kayla Hamilton posted 15 assists and six aces, and Aspen Christiansen ended the match with 13 digs to lead Crook County. Abby Smith added 14 kills and three aces, Laura Fraser contributed eight kills and five aces, and Jen Roth registered seven kills of her own for the Cowgirls (9-1 TVC), who end the regular season tied with Madras atop the TVC standings. The two conference foes will play a tie-breaker match Tuesday at Ridgeview for the league’s No. 1 seed in the Class 4A state playoffs.

Sisters 3, Cottage Grove 0: COTTAGE GROVE — Behind 12 kills by Nila Lukens, the Outlaws swept Cottage Grove 25-6, 25-8, 25-10 to clinch the Sky-Em League title. Allie Spear contributed with seven kills and five aces for Sisters, Jessie Brigham posted 16 digs, and Alex Hartford finished with 13 assists. The Outlaws, No. 2 in Class 4A, moved to 9-0 in Sky-Em play.

Culver 3, Irrigon 0: BOARDMAN — Shealene Little racked up 22 kills, bringing her season total to a school-record 515, as the Bulldogs swept Irrigon 25-15, 25-8, 25-10 in Columbia Basin Conference action. Little added seven aces and six digs for the Bulldogs (7-0 CBC), Margie Beeler dished out 33 assists, and Emma Hoke chipped in with four aces and nine digs. Lynze Schonneker had four digs and four kills for Culver, ranked second in Class 2A, and Andrea Retano finished with two aces and five kills.

Coquille 3, La Pine 0: LA PINE — Kinsey Pinckney logged 11 assists and 10 digs, but the Hawks slipped to 0-7 in Mountain Valley Conference play with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-13 setback. Maddie Fisher and Micaela Whittington each had four kills for La Pine, while Julie Deniz posted three kills.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Madras 16, Summit 3: Sophie Gemelas had five goals, Cirelle Frank added four, and the White Buffaloes stormed to victory at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. Melissa Field scored three times for Madras, Summit was led by Annie Jarvis’ two goals and Sydney Goodman’s one score. Goodman also had two blocks in goal for the Storm, while Eden Vanderhoeck finished with three blocks.

BOYS WATER POLO

Summit 10, Madras 7: Tommy Brewer scored five goals to lead the Storm at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center in a Central Valley League victory. Summit keeper Kyle Alhart paced the Storm’s defense with 10 saves. The Storm are now 6-0 in league play.
