Culver starts fast, beats Pilot Rock

CULVER — Jaiden Jones rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns as Culver defeated Pilot Rock 42-6 in a home Columbia Basin Conference game Friday night.
The Bulldogs cruised to a 27-0 lead by halftime and piled up 427 yard of offense to Pilot Rock’s 278.
Levi Vincent rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown for Culver (2-1 CBC, 6-1 overall), and Johnny Espland added two rushing touchdowns.
Culver finished the game with 393 yards on the ground.
“Our run game was going well,” Culver coach Shea Little said.
The Bulldogs play at Weston-McEwen next Thursday.

Liberty 41, Bend 7: HILLSBORO — Two Liberty touchdowns in the game’s first 58 seconds put Bend in a deficit that it could not recover from in a nonleague road loss. The Falcons, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A, skied the opening kickoff, and the Lava Bears (5-2 overall) were unable to recover the subsequent loose ball. Two plays later, Liberty scored the game’s first touchdown. History repeated itself on the ensuing kickoff, and the Falcons again took advantage with a touchdown. Bend hosts Summit next Friday before wrapping up the season at home against rival Mountain View.
Elmira 47, Sisters 17: ELMIRA — Five turnovers proved costly for Sisters in a Sky-Em League loss. “Those five turnovers killed us,” said Sisters coach Gary Thorson, whose team trailed 31-6 at the half. “We just laid an egg.” Logan Schutte scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the visiting Outlaws (3-1 Sky-Em, 4-3 overall). Connor Gellings capped the Sisters scoring with a 6-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. The Outlaws wrap up conference play next Friday with a home contest against Sweet Home.
Triad 88, Gilchrist 28: GILCHRIST — In a Class 1A Special District 2 matchup, the Grizzlies entertained Triad of Klamath Falls, but fell for Gilchrist’s second home loss in three games this season. Senior Jonny Heitzman rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown for Gilchrist (0-4 SD2, 2-4 overall), adding 111 yards receiving and a score on three catches. Nathan Heitzman completed 12 of 25 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns, and Gabe Bernabe finished with 92 yards receiving and a score.
Molalla 56, Madras 7: MOLALLA — With a loss to Molalla, Madras slipped to 0-4 in Tri-Valley Conference play and 1-6 overall. The White Buffaloes host Corbett next Friday in their conference finale.
Crook County 36, Corbett 6: CORBETT — Crook County remained tied for second in the Tri-Valley Conference with a conference win over Corbett. The Cowboys host Estacada next Friday with a chance to secure their first state playoff berth since 1997.
Coquille 54, La Pine 6: COQUILLE — La Pine dropped to 1-2 in league play and 2-5 overall with a Mountain Valley Conference loss to Coquille. The Hawks resume conference play next Friday, when La Pine entertains Harrisburg.
