Deaths of note from around the world:

Edward V. Regan, 84: Buffalo Republican who knew little about high finance when he became the New York state comptroller but soundly managed billions in public pension funds and monitored hundreds of municipalities and state agencies for 14 years. Died Saturday in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Tim Hauser, 72: Founder and guiding force behind the Manhattan Transfer, a Grammy-winning pop-jazz vocal group that enjoyed decades of worldwide acclaim. Died Oct. 16 at a hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Earle Palmer Brown, 92: Businessman who founded the Washington-area advertising and public relations agency that bore his name and became an industry powerhouse during five decades in business. Died Oct. 1 at his home in Potomac, Maryland, of cardiac arrest.
