COTC announces fall and winter programs — The Central Oregon Track Club is now accepting signups for its youth track and field programs this fall and winter. For children ages 6-10, the COTC Cheetahs will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 3 through March 19 at Summit High (through Feb. 26) and Pilot Butte Middle School (March 6-19). The Cheetahs program will focus on the fundamentals of track and field and will include games and competition. COTC will also sponsor a fall and winter junior program for athletes ages 11-18. This middle and high school program will be held Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from Nov. 3 to Feb. 12. A parent and athlete meeting for the junior program is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Oct. 27 at Summit High’s library. BIKEPACKING
Drobna wins singlespeed category at 400-mile race — Bend’s Alice Drobna took second overall and first in the singlespeed division of the inaugural Trans North California bikepacking race that started Oct. 11. The 400-mile endurance race started in Reno, Nevada, and ended in Mendocino, California. Kurt Sandiforth, of Nevada City, California, won the race in 49 hours, 8 minutes. Drobna was next across the finish line in 68 hours. An unsupported race, participants supplied their own food and camped along the course.
RUGBY
COCC improves to 2-0 — Central Oregon Community College blasted visiting Seattle University 84-0 on Saturday and moved to 2-0 on the season. Dalton Chambers led the Bobcats with 29 points off a field goal, two tries and eight conversion kicks. Levi Penter, Manu Vete, Ryan Davis, Jacob Mareko, Travis Skyles, Alex Esselstrom, Mark Troxel and Adam Pendergraft also scored tries for COCC. The Bobcats play the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on Saturday. (Editor’s note: This story has been corrected. In the original version, Levi Penter’s first name was misspelled. Beaver Club to host watch party — The Central Oregon Beaver Club with host a watch party at McMenamins Old St. Francis School in Bend on Saturday for Oregon State’s game against Stanford. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. and the doors will open for the watch part at 11:30 a.m. A $5 donation is requested.
