NBA basketball, Oklahoma City at Portland, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN): Damian Lillard, LaMarcus Aldridge and the rest of the Trail Blazers open the 2014-15 season at the Moda Center against the Thunder, who will be without injured star Kevin Durant. Portland last season won a playoff series for the first time since 2000 and is looking for a fast start to the new campaign.

In Redmond, Ridgeview entertains Redmond High in the first football meeting ever between the Ravens and the Panthers.

Saturday

Cross-country, Oregon high school state championships in Eugene, 10 a.m.: The all-classifications meet at Lane Community College opens with the Class 3A/2A/1A girls race and concludes with the Class 6A boys race at 3 p.m. In between, at 1:15 p.m., the Summit girls make their bid for a seventh consecutive Class 5A state title.
