Dec. 13, 1928 – Oct. 23, 2014

Ida Lorraine Popish was born to Shelburn Dale and Alice (Blanchard) Ayres on December 13, 1928, near Prineville, Oregon. She passed away on October 23, 2014, at the age of 85.

Her childhood was lived in Powell Butte, Oregon, where her parents owned the Powell Butte Store. She went to grade school in Powell Butte, and graduated from Redmond Union High School in 1946. It was there she met her high school sweetheart, Chuck Popish. They were married on June 28, 1949. She was a lifelong resident of Central Oregon, living in Redmond all of her adult life.

She was a member of Powell Butte Christian Church, and as a teenager was baptized there. Her mother was a charter member of that church.

Lorraine was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. Her fullest joy was when her family could be together. She was selfless and always put others before herself. She had a quiet and gentle spirit. Her children couldn’t have had a better mother…she was “Mom”.

The joys of her life were simple ones…a maple bar and cup of coffee, a drive through the countryside, a puppy, a bird eating in one of her bird feeders, a strawberry sundae, baking one of her fabulous apple pies…but most of all a visit from family. She and Chuck made many short road trips around the state and especially loved going to the Oregon Coast.

She is survived by children, Sue (Clyde) Williams, Julie (Bob) Williams, Lou (Deena) Popish, Mary Lee (John) Hargis and Chuck (Kathy) Popish; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She has one surviving brother, Robert Ayres; three sisters- in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Nicholas Popish; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts sent to Partners in Care, 2075 NE Wyatt Ct. Bend, OR 97701, or The Alzheimer’s Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Flr. 17 Chicago, IL 60601 would be appreciated.
