Viktor Tikhonov, 84: Soviet hockey coach whose teams won three Olympic gold medals but fell to the United States in the “Miracle on Ice.” Died after a long illness Monday in Russia.
Allan Kornblum, 65: The founder of Coffee House Press, described as one of the premier nonprofit literary publishers in the nation. Died at his home in St. Paul on Sunday.
Ernest Kinoy, 89: Wrote Broadway musicals, Hollywood screenplays and Emmy Award-winning episodes of “The Defenders” and “Roots.” Died Monday in Townshend, Vermont.
Wilhelm Burgdorfer, 89: Swiss-born researcher who gained international recognition for discovering the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Died from complications of Parkinson’s disease Nov. 17 in Hamilton, Montana.
Samuel Klein, 91: Polish-born founder of Brazil’s largest home-appliance retailer, Casas Bahia. Died Nov. 20 in Sao Paulo from respiratory failure.
Victor Elmaleh, 95: Builder and entrepreneur who imported the first Volkswagens to the United States, developed $7 billion worth of real estate, painted more than 4,000 watercolors and won national championships in handball and squash and a squash tournament. Died Nov. 17 in Manhattan, New York.
