The “Long Goodbye” has finished with Thelma A. Thompson. She died from advanced dementia at 89.
She was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to Walter A. Jardine and Alice J. (Hastie) Jardine. Her sister Maimie was born in 1927. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1943. She went to the University of Idaho and graduated with a degree as a Dietitian. She interned in Oakland, California. While there, she met Earl Thompson. They married in Coeur d’Alene on October 2, 1949. Their older daughter, Alice (Thompson) Black was born in Coeur d’Alene in 1951. Then in 1953 Kathy Thompson was born in Coeur d’Alene.
The family moved to Redmond, Oregon in 1967. Thelma worked in the Redmond and Prineville hospitals through the early 1970’s. Thelma became a grandmother with Chelsea in 1973; then Tiffany in 1975 and Brandi in 1983. She became a great- grandmother in 2008 with Carmen.
Thelma was a long- standing member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond. She was also in the Redmond Garden Club for over 35 years. She was a flower show judge for a decade.
She liked to travel, knit and sew, garden and gather her family for meals.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy in 1971; her father in 1973, and mother in 1975. Her husband survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Alice and son-in-law, Rich Black; her three granddaughters and one great-granddaughter; and her sister, Maimie.
Donations in Thelma’s memory could be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Brightside Animal Center.
Thelma must have baked a cookie for everyone in Central Oregon!
