SAN DIEGO — Trudging over a wet terrain but beneath sunny skies, Central Oregon runner Matthew Maton placed 19th at the Foot Locker Cross Country national championships on Saturday.

With temperatures in the 60s, Maton, who was third at last year’s competition, completed the 5,000-meter course in 15 minutes, 49 seconds to finish in the top 20 of the 40-runner boys field. Grant Fisher, of Grand Blanc, Michigan, captured his second straight national title with a time of 15:03 — nine seconds better than runner-up Olin Hacker, of Madison, Wisconsin.
