Bears boys pull away in 2nd half

Bend High and Summit headed into the half knotted up 30-30 Tuesday, but the Lava Bears outscored their crosstown foes 12-5 in the third quarter on their way to a 56-48 home Intermountain Conference boys basketball win over the No. 2-ranked team in 5A.
Bend’s J.J. Spitler scored nine of his team-leading 15 points from behind the arc, while teammate Elliot Willy had 12 points and eight rebounds. Jacob Parsons and Christian Johnson added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Jack Hurley posted 18 points for the Storm (4-3 IMC, 14-4 overall), but he was the only Summit player to score in double figures.
The Lava Bears sit at 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the IMC.

Madras 63, Corbett 50: MADRAS — The Cardinals narrowed a fourth-quarter deficit from 20 points to 10 in the final minutes, but the White Buffaloes held on to remain undefeated in the Tri-Valley Conference. Jered Pichette led Madras (5-0 TVC, 15-4 overall) with 17 points, nine assists and six steals, while Brent Sullivan notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Crook County 49, Estacada 45: PRINEVILLE — Seth Kessi scored 19 points, and the Cowboys overcame dismal free-throw shooting to down the Rangers in a Tri-Valley League game. Nursing a one-point lead to begin the fourth quarter, Crook County (3-2 Tri-Valley, 9-10 overall) built a 13-point lead midway through the fourth quarter. But free-throw struggles — the Cowboys hit just 10 of 27 from the line — allowed Estacada (1-4, 2-17) to creep back into the game. Kessi also grabbed seven rebounds, and Blake Bartels scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, had six steals and dished five assists.
La Pine 59, Pleasant Hill 54: LA PINE — Hunter Bell scored 41 points on the Hawks when Pleasant Hill defeated La Pine on Jan. 16, but Conrad Parker and the Hawks (4-6 Mountain Valley Conference, 9-11 overall) held Bell to 20 points Tuesday night. La Pine’s Tyress Turnsplenty pulled down 11 rebounds and had four assists and three blocks in addition to his seven points. Hawks leading scorer Ian Johnson accounted for 21 points and missed just two shots in the second half.
Central Christian 64, Trinity Lutheran JV 32: Caleb Reynolds scored 20 points to lead four Central Christian players in double figures, and the visiting Tigers rolled to the win. Pedro Chinait hit three 3-pointers en route to 14 points, and Jacob Biever and Josiah Poole scored 13 and 10, respectively, for Central Christian (3-10 overall). Fionn Joerdens led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to pace the Saints (3-12).
North Lake 58, Paisley 37: SILVER LAKE — Daniel Libolt just missed a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists for the Cowboys (6-4 Mountain Valley League, 9-9 overall). Nathan Gilbert had 13 points and nine boards for North Lake, and Cameron McCord added 12 points.

Ridgeview 59, Mountain View 44: REDMOND — Shae Wilcox posted 14 points, and the Ravens hit 18 of 25 free throws to secure an Intermountain Conference victory. Hosanna Wilder logged 12 points for Ridgeview (5-2 IMC, 11-8 overall), which outscored the Cougars 16-7 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. Hailey Goetz netted a game-high 16 points for Mountain View (2-4, 5-13), while Sarah Bailey and Erica Skoog each had eight points.
Madras 46, Corbett 39: CORBETT — The White Buffaloes remained near the top of the Tri-Valley Conference with a league win over Corbett, improving Madras to 4-1 in league play and 11-8 overall.
Estacada 45, Crook County 43: ESTACADA — Emma Burke scored on an inbounds play with less than two seconds remaining to break a 43-43 tie and beat the visiting Cowgirls in a Tri-Valley Conference game that was close throughout. Michaeline Malott and Kimmer Severance scored 12 points apiece, and Ashton Morgan added 11 for Crook County, which lost despite hitting 17 of 23 free throws. The Rangers made just 4 of 14. Chelsea Thomas grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go with her six points, and Severance had 10 rebounds for the Cowgirls (1-4 TVC, 5-13 overall).
Pleasant Hill 36, La Pine 35: LA PINE — It was a heartbreaker for the host Hawks, who led 20-9 at halftime but fell to the top-ranked Billies in a Mountain Valley Conference contest. Ashley Pierce scored a game-high 18 points for La Pine, which was outscored 16-4 in the third quarter when senior post McKenna Boen encountered foul trouble, and Pleasant Hill capitalized inside. “We had a real dry third quarter,” said Hawks coach Kim Beer. “That really killed us.” Down 25-24 after three periods, La Pine started fast in the fourth and led much of the way down the stretch before the Billies took the lead for good. A long last-second shot by Teawna Conklin beat the final buzzer but missed the mark. Boen finished with seven points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Alexis Roes had seven rebounds and six points, and Riley Mickel had a team-best five assists for La Pine (5-5 MVC, 14-6 overall).
Trinity Lutheran 50, Central Christian 5: Senior Katie Murphy scored 11 of her 22 points in the first quarter, when Trinity Lutheran outscored Central Christian 19-0 to take early command of the Mountain Valley League game. Mariah Murphy, Katie’s sophomore sister, had a strong all-around game with eight points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Eight players scored for the host Saints (9-1 MVL, 18-2 overall), who won their sixth in a row. Abigail Hannay led the Tigers (0-10, 1-12) with four points.
North Lake 30, Paisley 24: SILVER LAKE — Behind Kentra Murphy’s 13 points and 16 rebounds, the Cowgirls eked out a Mountain Valley League victory. Kira Thomas had 10 points and 10 boards for the Cowgirls (7-4 MVL, 9-10 overall).
