Bend has been selected to host the USA Track & Field Cross Country Championships for 2016 and 2017, tourism officials announced today.

The event will bring top athletes to the city while also providing competition for amateur runners and students, according to a news release from Visit Bend, the city’s tourism promotion agency. The championships are scheduled for early February, although exact dates were not provided.

The races will be around River’s Edge Golf Course on Mt. Washington Drive, according to the news release. River’s Edge also hosted the 2013 National Club Cross Country Championships, according to USA Track & Field.

This year’s Cross Country Championships, being held Friday and Saturday in Boulder, Colorado, feature $50,000 in total prize money, the organization stated.
