An alleged sighting of a cougar late Thursday morning in Sunriver caused Three Rivers School, a public K-8 school, to hold recess indoors as a safety precaution.
Bend-La Pine Schools Director of Communication and Safety Julianne Repman said the Sunriver Police Department notified the school as “a courtesy.”
The person who called Sunriver Police at about 11 a.m. said the cougar was standing on South Century Drive just east of the Sunriver boundary, according to a news release from the police. The animal reportedly moved northwest towards Sunriver in the direction of the railroad tracks and power line road. Police searched the area extensively but did not spot the cat.
This is the third sighting of a cougar in this location, police said.
