PRINEVILLE — Crook County is driving into new territory now.
Behind 17 points and four rebounds by Blake Bartels, the Cowboys dispatched Estacada 54-48 in a Tri-Valley Conference boys basketball playoff game Tuesday night, earning Crook County a spot in the Class 4A postseason for the first time since 2012.
“It’s been a long time since Crook County even gotten into a play-in game,” Cowboys coach Darin Kessi said. “For us to win two games last year and win 14 (this season) is a testament to the hard work of these boys and their dedication and their commitment to getting better.”
Crook County (14-11 overall) outscored the Rangers 15-8 in the second quarter to take control, eventually sealing the win and a postseason berth.
Seth Kessi chipped in with 13 points, nine repounds and four steals for the Cowboys, while Garrett Harper and Kohlter Kee each posted 10 points. The Class 4A play-in round begins Friday.
“I told the boys tonight that from here on out, every team gets better,” Darin Kessi said. “Every team gets more difficult. It’s been quite a few firsts for these boys, so it’s cool to see they’re doing things at Crook County that haven’t been done in a while.”
