Beavers’ Rueck, Hamblin honored by Pac-12 — Oregon State women’s coach Scott Rueck has been named Coach of the Year by the Pac-12, the league announced Tuesday, and Ruth Hamblin was named Defensive Player of the Year. Rueck led the Beavers to their first-ever league regular-season title, and Hamblin leads the league with 111 total blocks. California’s Reshanda Gray was named league player of the year. Also named to the 15-player all-league team were Oregon State’s Jamie Weisner and Sydney Wiese, and Oregon’s Jillian Alleyne.

49ers sign Australian rugby star — Australian rugby star Jarryd Hayne passed a physical and signed a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. The team announced the deal for the undrafted free agent, who said his deal includes $100,000 in guaranteed money. Hayne will compete for a job as a running back and return man on special teams. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Hayne, 27, was named Player of the Year, Best Fullback, Top Tryscorer and Representative Player in the National Rugby League last season.
