Feb 15, 1925 – February 15, 2015This is one of the hardest thing that I have ever had to do. Love hurts. Dora Ester Cusick died on Sunday, February 15, 2015 when she turned ninety years old to the day. She was born on a Sunday in Hood River, OR, on February 15, 1925 to Moses and Delpha Addington. The family soon moved to Maupin, OR, where she graduated from Maupin High School. In April 21, 1946, she was married in Astoria OR, to our father, Robert G. Cusick who passed in 2003. The pair moved often, but soon settled in Bend OR, around 1956. Mom leaves behind her five children, Robert, Roger, Ester, Floyd, and Patricia. All of whom call Bend their home. Mom had 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren that are spread all across the United States. She was the last to survive of her siblings, and she missed them to the end of her days. As with most people from her time, she was a witness to so many great and horrible events. Including the Great Depression, the loss of her beloved brother, Floyd Addington at Pearl Harbor, and enduring her oldest son’s time in Vietnam. Our mother never did learn to drive, she never took up smoking, drinking, nor was she crazy about coffee. Dora was one of the strongest and most independent ladies that I had ever known. She cared fiercely for all animals mostly the babies and she had a way of willing them to live. Her flowers were just as important to her. A Thanksgiving cactus that she inherited from her Mother is over 100 years old. Our family, and now you have witnessed the passing of a Great Lady who did make a life of 90 years her own. A graveside service will be held on Sat., Mar. 7 at 1:30 PM at Deschutes Memorial Gardens, BendArrangements have been entrusted to Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Home. 541-382-2471
