A man who claimed an intruder shot him at his home on Wickiup Road on Monday actually shot himself, according to Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Deke DeMars.

Todd Dickerson, 40, of Bend, told sheriff’s deputies when they responded to his home Monday afternoon that a 6-foot tall intruder in a ski mask had shot him and fled from the scene, leaving the firearm at the residence.

The investigation revealed the injury was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, DeMars wrote in a press release Wednesday. There was no intruder and there is no danger to the community, DeMars wrote.

The case will be sent to the Deschutes County District Attorney for review.
