A man arrested after a September car crash that killed one of his young passengers has been released from jail while he awaits further court proceedings.
According to the Deschutes County jail, William Wayne Fix, 33, was released after posting bail at about 3 p.m. Friday. He is subject to electronic monitoring. He had been in county custody since Sept. 26, when, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, he lost control of his car and hit a rock embankment on U.S. Highway 97, killing his 7-year-old stepdaughter and severely injuring four other passengers, all minors.
Fix is scheduled to enter a plea to charges of first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence of intoxicants and second- and fourth-degree assault Mar. 20, according to the Oregon Judicial Information Network.
