The Sunrise Express lift at Mt. Bachelor has reopened after a chair detached from its cable Sunday and fell onto the slope.
Officials at the ski resort determined Monday that the chair had a component failure causing the grip to malfunction as it exited the upper terminal.
The Sunrise lift was closed following the incident on Sunday and reopened at 9 a.m. Monday.
All chair grips were inspected on the lift and no other problems were discovered, according to Spencer Weimar, a spokesman for the resort. Mt. Bachelor personnel also inspected the lift’s terminal components and the company is reviewing operating procedures with lift operations and maintenance staff.
The lift chair fell off at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured from the chair falling. It had just exited the upper terminal and was traveling on the downhill, unloaded side of the lift without any passengers.
