Hawks boys, Storm girls win LaPine Invite

LA PINE — Justin Petz and Keegan Kriz each won two events, and the La Pine boys piled up 207.5 points to win the La Pine Invitational on Saturday, besting runner-up Summit by 14 points.

Petz took the pole vault and the long jump for the Hawks, while Kriz won the 200- and 400-meter runs. Also adding victories for La Pine were Tyress Turnsplenty (1,500), Ben Harrison (shot put) and Ian Johnson (javelin).

Nealon Hager paced the Storm with wins in the triple jump and 100, while Kyle Heimuller placed first in the discus and second in the shot put. Madras, which was fourth in the six-team standings, was led by Brent Sullivan’s win in the high jump. Fern Badillo won the 100 for Culver.

Behind Kelsey Washenberger’s victories in the 800 and 1,500, the Summit girls posted 206 points to top the seven-team standings. Claire Christensen took the 300 hurdles and was second in the 100 hurdles for the Storm, and Alexandra Walker placed first in the triple jump and second in the long jump.

Jordynn Slater won the shot put and the discus and finished second in the javelin for La Pine, which was second with 133.5 points. Erynn Ricker took the 100 and the 200 and placed second in the pole vault for Sisters, which tied for third.

Track and field

Storm finish high at relays: EUGENE — Piper Flannery placed second in the 400 and the freshman 100, helping Summit total 86 points and finish second in the 63-team standings with 86 points. Only Camas, Washington, bested the Storm, finishing with 97.5 points. Miranda Brown was third in the triple jump for Summit, Hannah Tobiason and Taylor Vandenborn took fourth and sixth in the girls 3,000 freshman race, and Hannah Fraley placed fifth in the freshman 100. Olivia Brooks was sixth in the girls 1,500, Kaely Gordon took eighth in the girls 800, and the Storm placed first in the girls 1,600 relay and medley relay races. Summit also received contributions from its boys 1,600 sprint medley and 3,200 relay teams, each of which placed sixth. Ryan Tennant finished eighth in the freshman boys 100.

Bend girls win Crater Classic: CENTRAL POINT — Sophia Cunningham placed second in the 200 and 400, and Sarah Perkins was runner-up in the 800 and 1,500 to lead the Bend girls to a first-place finish at the 19-team Crater Classic with 119 points. Kristen Place won the 100 for Mountain View, which was second with 86 points. Cassidy Hughes (javelin, discus) and Madison Leapaldt (3,000) each took third for the Cougs. Christian VanSise placed second in the long jump and Dantly Wilcox was second in both the 300 hurdles and 110 hurdles to lead the Mountain View boys to a third-place tie with 76 points. Caleb Hoffmann won the 800 and finished third in the 300 hurdles for Bend, which was eighth in the 17-team field. Logan Blake took third in the 400 for the Lava Bears.

McNamara takes two at relays: SALEM — Redmond’s Jacoby McNamara won the 100 and 200 at the Viking Relays, helping the Panthers finish third at the six-team meet with 93 points. Tualatin won the meet with 154.5 points. Redmond’s Alani Troutman took first in the 110 hurdles. For the Panthers girls, Makenna Conley (400), Andrea Broyles (3,000) and Vanessa Guerrero (shot put) each placed second as Redmond finished fifth with 64 points. Tualatin took first with 169 points.

Crook County shines at invite: COOS BAY — Crook County’s Michael Seyl won the boys 300 hurdles at the Prefontaine Rotary Invitational, while Sam Santiago (400) and Parker Lapsley (high jump) each took second. For the girls, Danielle Michael was runner-up in the pole vault, and Laken Berlin placed third in both the long jump and the 300 hurdles.

Softball

Culver 2-1, Heppner 1-4: HEPPNER — The Bulldogs split a doubleheader with Heppner to gain their first win in Special District 6 play. Culver (4-11 overall, 1-5 SD6) needed extra innings to get the win in the first game. Cheryl Aldred had the game-winning RBI single for the Bulldogs in the top of the ninth inning. Josi Harrison struck out 11 in the complete-game win. In the second game, Culver’s six errors led to three Heppner unearned runs. Joie VanAlstyne had two hits and scored the only run for the Bulldogs on an Aldred double.

Boys tennis

Ridgeview takes out North Eugene: EUGENE — Brett Blundell, Myles Pardue and Dalton Lewis each recorded a singles victory, and the Ravens defeated North Eugene 6-2.

Girls tennis

Redmond sweeps: EUGENE — The Panthers picked up wins over North Eugene and Springfield. Redmond beat North Eugene 7-1 with six straight-set victories, including Jessica Brunot’s 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles. Mallory Hanson and Yaneli Brambila also put away their competition in doubles 6-0, 6-2. The Panthers beat Springfield 6-2, headlined by a Makenna Leighty 6-1, 6-0 win in singles. Redmond also won two doubles matches by forfeit.

Cowgirls, Buffs 3-4 at invite: MADRAS — Greta Harris placed first at No. 1 singles, Gwyneth Ptomey was second at No. 2 singles, and Crook County posted a team score of 113 to finish third at the eight-team Madras Invitational. Madras, which was fourth with a 107, was led by Jessica Garcia and Jasmin Mercado, who took third at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Tyra Thomas and Dani Schmaltz teamed up to take third at No. 3 doubles for the White Buffaloes. Sisters finished seventh with 80 points.

Boys lacrosse

Hermiston 11, Ridgeview 4: REDMOND — Ridgeview (3-4) kept the game close until the second half when fatigue began to set in after the Ravens’ second game in as many nights, accoring to coach Jared Steele. Sam Earnest led Ridgeview with two goals.

Sisters 10, Churchill 7: SISTERS — The Outlaws improved to 4-5 with the nonleague victory.

Girls lacrosse

Summit 14, Southridge 4: Summit shut out Southridge in the second half and remained undefeated. The Storm (8-0) were led by Lauren Gallivan with three goals and an assist, and Kyra Hajovsky also had three goals. Fiona Dolan and Kalie McGrew each had two goals and an assist, and goalie Kelsey Norby had 12 saves.
