Bears get medalist, Storm get team win

Bend High senior Ryan DeCastilhos shot a 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors at the Tetherow High Desert Challenge boys golf tournament.
DeCastilhos shot a back-nine 34 at Tetherow Golf Club in Bend on his way to the victory.
Temperatures in the mid-70s with little wind made for good scoring conditions Monday afternoon, and Summit took advantage to claim the team title with a score of 305.
Bend was second (311), and Cascade Christian of Medford finished third (317) in the 16-team field. Bend and Summit were the lone Central Oregon schools at the tournament.
Six golfers from Central Oregon finished in the top nine: Summit’s Jack Loberg placed second with a 73, Bend’s Jack Klar and Summit’s Cooper Donahue and Ben Wasserman all shot 77s to finish tied for fifth, and Cole Chrisman of Summit carded a 79 to take ninth.

Crook County wins Estacada Invite: ESTACADA — The Cowboys posted a team score of 345 to claim the team title at Springwater Golf Course. Estacada was second with a 360. Cabe Goehring of Crook County won medalist honors with a 75. His teammate Mayson Tibbs tied for second with 77.
Girls golf
Summit wins at Awbrey Glen: The Storm finished with a team score of 322 to win the five-team tournament at Awbrey Glen Golf Club. Bend High was second with 389. Summit’s Madison Odiorne claimed medalist honors with a 3-over-par 75. Rachel Drgastin of Summit took second with an 80, and Alyssa Kerry, also of Summit, was third with an 81.
Softball
Summit 8, Mountain View 7: Summit scored all of its runs in the first three innings and earned its first Intermountain Conference win since 2013. The Storm (1-6 IMC, 6-9 overall) were ahead 8-2 after the end of the third inning, but allowed five runs over the fifth and sixth innings to make it a one-run game. Mountain View (2-3, 6-9) got runners on base in the top of the seventh but could not capitalize. Aubrey Clemans led Summit with two hits, including a triple and four RBIs, and Brooke Lee had two hits and two RBIs. Hannah Clapp had three hits, including a home run, and Jensen Logan hit a two-run home run for Mountain View.
Bend 17, Redmond 9: Bend did not allow a run after the third inning in the Intermountain Conference victory. The Lava Bears (3-2 IMC, 8-7 overall) trailed 5-0 at the end of the first but blanked Redmond in the second while scoring four runs of their own. Bend tied the game a 9-all in the bottom of the third. Destiny Wagner led the Lava Bears with three hits and two RBIs, Allison Dahlgren hit a two-run single, and Lacey Bunting had two hits and two RBIs. The Panthers (2-3, 4-10) were led by Kaila Fierstos, who hit a grand slam in the third inning.
Baseball
Summit 9, Mountain View 6: Matt Hicks relieved Colby Scott and earned the Intermountain Conference win for Summit. Cal Waterman, Dylan Albertazzi and Noah Yunker each had two hits for Summit (6-1 IMC, 14-1 overall), while Jason Garcia reached base five times. Colton Lovelace had two hits, and Derek Ostrom hit a triple to lead Mountain View (1-4, 4-9).
Bend 13, Redmond 3: Jacob Parsons was 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Lava Bears to a five-inning Intermountain Conference win. Cameron Himes had two hits with two RBIs and two runs scored for Bend (4-1 IMC, 11-14 overall). Redmond (2-3, 6-8) was led by Cooger Smith, who had two hits and two RBIs.
