Mayweather’s ex-girlfriend sues for defamation — The mother of three of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s children sued the undefeated boxing champion for defamation over his recent comments about her and a 2010 domestic violence attack in Las Vegas. Josie Harris filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, days after her ex-boyfriend defeated Manny Pacquiao in a highly anticipated bout. Harris’ lawsuit focuses on comments Mayweather made during an April interview with Katie Couric in which he said he was restraining his ex-girlfriend and that she was on drugs at the time of the incident. The lawsuit states Mayweather’s comments were “utterly false.”

Appeals officer upholds penalties against RCR — NASCAR’s final appeals officer upheld penalties levied against Richard Childress Racing for intentionally manipulating Ryan Newman’s tires in March. The decision of Final Appeals Officer Bryan Moss is final. He ruled Wednesday there was “a preponderance of evidence” that RCR manipulated the tires. NASCAR said that RCR had intentionally altered the tires to let air leak out during a run — a process known as “bleeding” — to give Newman an advantage.

Shortening MLB regular season popular topic — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says shortening the regular season is becoming a popular topic as players and owners prepare to negotiate a new labor deal. Manfred says reducing the number of games in a season would have economic and competitive ramifications, but the topic is receiving more attention than it ever has. He noted that playing 162 games in 183 days is tough on players.
