Deschutes Brewery was the only U.S. brewery honored at the International Brewing and Cider Awards 2015, held April 29 at Guildhall in London.

The Bend brewery received three awards at the event, a bi-annual competition that began in 1886, including: Champion Smallpack Ale for Armory XPA; Champion Dark Beer for Black Butte Porter; and Champion Specialty for Red Chair NWPA.

Receiving an award is “a recognition by fellow professional brewers that a beer is an outstanding commercial example of its style,” according to brewingawards.org. Including the three winning beers from Deschutes, championship trophies were awarded to a total of nine beers and one cider.

Oregon Spirit Distillers of Bend brought home four awards this year from the judging of the American Craft Spirits Awards at the American Distillers Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, in April.

The Bend company received a double gold for its Wild Card Absinthe for the second year in a row. The Wild Card Absinthe also received Best of Category. The Merrylegs Genever, a Genever-style distilled gin, also won a gold in its category for spirits and gold in packaging design. The packaging for the Merrylegs Genever is done by Katie Daisy.
