Bend’s Modin in NCAA decathlon

Bend’s Mitch Modin is set to compete in the decathlon at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships this week at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The event runs Wednesday through Saturday, and the decathlon is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
A sophomore at Oregon and a graduate of Bend’s Mountain View High, Modin qualified ninth out of 24 participating decathletes with a score of 7,578.
Modin finished fourth in the Pac-12 decathlon championships last month in Los Angeles.
Modin’s Oregon teammates Dakotah Keys and Joe Delgado are also scheduled to compete in the decathlon. Keys, a senior, qualified fourth (7,833), and the freshman Delgado qualified 22nd (7,337).
Wednesday’s decathlon events are the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters. Thursday’s events are the 110 hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500.
