Eight Central Oregon players named Class 5A all-state

Five Ridgeview softball players received all-state honors after the Ravens put together one of the more dominant seasons in Class 5A this spring, highlighting a group of eight Central Oregon players who were named to the all-state team.
Ridgeview’s Sara McKinney, the IMC pitcher and co-player of the year, was named to the first team as a utility/designated player. The Ravens’ Rachel Collins, Hannah George and Fern Spencer were each selected to the second team, while Brook Herrington received honorable mention. The Ravens finished 22-2 overall and won the Intermountain Conference.
Bend High’s Awbrie Elle Kinkade, who shared the IMC player of the year honor with McKinney and Mountain View’s Hannah Wicklund, was voted to the first team for the second time. Wicklund was selected to the second team, and Mountain View’s Ivy Vann was named to the third team.
White Buffaloes named all-league
Madras’ Bryce Rehwinkel was named to the all-Tri-Valley Conference baseball first team after posting a .449 batting average, highlighting four White Buffaloes who garnered all-league recognition. Austin Rauschenburg, a .411 hitter this season, and Chad Thurby were selected to the second team, while Tyler Lockey received honorable mention.
Storm athletes prep for nationals
Three Summit High track and field athletes have qualified for the New Balance Nationals Outdoor championships to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, and they are seeking financial assistance to attend. Storm heptathletes Miranda Brown and Camille Weaver and sprinter Piper Flannery each earned spots at the national meet, which is scheduled for June 19-21. To donate, visit www.gofundme.com/vdmrq8.
Lava Bear selected to all-star series
Bend High’s Hunter McDonald was chosen to the South roster as an outfielder for the Reser’s Oregon All-Star Series, a three-game baseball series featuring some of the top Oregon seniors in Class 6A and 5A. All-star showdown for four hoopsters
Four Central Oregon boys basketball players were selected to play in the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association All Star Basketball Series, which is scheduled for Friday at Northwest Christian University in Eugene and Saturday at Wilsonville High. Summit’s Max Michalski and Bend High’s J.J. Spitler were named to the State roster, while Madras’ Jered Pichette and Brent Sullivan will play for the East.
