Anne Nicol Gaylor, 88: Transformed a local campaign for abortion rights into a national crusade to maintain the separation of church and state. Died Sunday at a hospice in Fitchburg, Wisconsin, from complications from a fall on May 30, her daughter, Annie Laurie Gaylor, said.
Josef Topol, 80: Wrote “End of Carnival” and “Cat on the Rails,” co-founded Prague’s Theater Beyond the Gate, an influential theater led by director Otomar Krejca, and considered with the late Vaclav Havel to be the leading Czech playwrights of the second half of the 20th century. Died Monday.
