March 13, 1927 – May 30, 2015

Our wonderful father and loving husband went home to be with The Lord on May 30th, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his children and his wife.

Richard was born in Clovis, CA on March 13, 1927 to Irwin and Clara Engebrecht. He lived on a farm where he learned good work ethics at a young age. He was in the Navy at the end of WWII.

He graduated from Fresno State and was hired for his first job as a chemical salesman in San Francisco. There, he met and married Gail Freeman on August 17, 1954, and they had four children, Robyn, Jeanie, Joanne and Richard. He was very successful with the same company, Univar Corporation, throughout his career. He was CEO when he retired in the early 1990s. He and Gail moved to Palm Springs and enjoyed traveling and especially their yearly trips to Maui. Gail passed away November 2004.

Later, Dick met and married Joan Pease and they had seven wonderful years together!

Dick was an avid tennis player and was rated 4.5. He enjoyed golf. He was difficult to beat at dominoes – math was his strong suit.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Gail and sister, Louise. He leaves behind his wife, Joan, children Robyn (Don) Casal, Jeannie Engebrecht, Dr. Joanne Engebrecht (husband Dr. Jim Trimmer), and Richard (Joanne) Engebrecht; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his sister, Lucille.

Donations may be made to St. Lukes Lutheran Church, The COPD Foundation, Lutheran World Relief, Bellevue, WA, or Hospice Care of Bend, as he requested.

To the best father and husband in the world. We will miss you terribly. Dick was a very kind man with always a winning smile. He was a devout Lutheran and lived his faith. Dick succeeded as he was honest and was never negative abouth other people.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy and support.

The Celebration of Life will be at his home which he shared with his wife, Joan Pease, July 18, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 1895 NW Remarkable Drive, Bend, OR 97701.
