Cycling
Thrilla Cyclocross Series begins Sept. 2 — The Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation will host cyclocross races at the Athletic Club of Bend each Wednesday during September. Anyone 12 or older may participate in any or all races. A 30-minute race for juniors and beginners will begin at 5:15 p.m., followed by a 45-minute race for experienced men and women at 6 p.m. Juniors may enter one race for $10 or all five for $40, while adult entry costs $20 for one race or $90 for the series. Participants must be OBRA members or purchase a one-day license for $5. Online registration is available at www.mbsef.org. Culver Redneck 5K canceled — Event organizers have announced the Culver Redneck Obstacle Course Run will not be held Saturday as planned. The obstacle course, which was intended as a fundraiser for the Culver volleyball team, was canceled due to the low number of early registrations received.
Recreation
BPRD fall program registration now open — The Bend Park & Recreation District is adding ice skating and other winter sports to its fall programs in anticipation of The Pavilion opening on Nov. 30. Registration for all fall activities is now available at https://register.bendparksandrec.org as well as in person at BPRD facilities. Race to mark opening of St. Charles Prineville — The stroller- and pet-friendly Get Your Move On 5K will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 12 as part of St. Charles Prineville opening events. The entry fee, which increases from $20 to $25 after Sept. 5, includes a T-shirt and goodie bag. The race will begin and end at the hospital. Participants may sign up early in person at Norm’s Xtreme Fitness or online at NormsXtremeFitness.com. Day-of registration will begin at 9 a.m.
Registration open for Annabelle’s Angel Glow — The third annual Annabelle’s Angel Glow will begin at sunset (approximately 6:46 p.m.) on Oct. 2 at Les Schwab Amphitheater in Bend. The 5K run and 2K walk benefits Anabelle Wilson, a 4-year-old Bend resident suffering from metachromatic leukodystrophy. Registration is available online at www.anabellesangelglow.com until Sept. 30. Entry for the 5K costs $25 for adults and $20 for kids, while the 2K costs $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Contact event organizer Becki Doden at 541-408-4949 for more information.

Bend’s Ferrin qualifies for Olympic Trials — Elliyana Ferrin, 16, qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in the 200-meter backstroke, winning the event at the Western Zone Championships in 2 minutes, 16.23 seconds, in Clovis, California. The U.S. trials for the 2016 Rio Olympics will be held next June in Omaha, Nebraska. The qualifying time for the event was 2:16.59. Ferrin, from Bend, also won the 100-meter backstroke in 1:04.50.

Bend teen takes 1st at world championship — Bend’s Hope Miller and her American quarter horse, Very Smart Rico, took first place in boxing at the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World Championship Show in Oklahoma City on Friday. Miller and Very Smart Rico beat out 47 other entries to take the title.
