Beach Volleyball

Bendites among winners in Seaside — Numerous teams from the Bend-based Oregon Volleyball Academy competed at the Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament in Seaside on Aug. 12 to 14. Among the OVA members who competed in Seaside, Haydn Quatre and Jade Waskom finished third in the AA (top-level) 16s division, which included more than 75 teams. Aubrey Stewart and Haley Smith earned a top-10 finish in the 16 As division, which also featured more than 75 teams. Matt Greenleaf and Ben Tustin won the Men’s AA division, while Teresa Martin and Jill Waskom won the Women’s Masters. Angela Greenleaf and Katie McLain finished as runners-up in the Women’s A division.

Gymnastics

Introductory classes begin at RGA — The Redmond Gymnastics Academy will host several classes for beginners during September. Beginning Gymnastics for Girls, which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Saturdays, is open for girls ages 6 to 12 and costs $89 or $49, depending on the days attended. Beginning Power Tumbling is open to all kids 6 and up and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays. Registration costs $89. Pre-K Gymnastics: Tiny Stars is designed for kids 3 to 5; participants may attend classes once a week on Monday ($39) or on both Monday and Wednesday ($78). Kids 6 to 18 may also sign up for parkour, which will teach street stunts and tumbling moves on Mondays and Wednesdays. Cost varies from $49 to $119 depending on the number of sessions attended each week and the age and skill level of the participant. Kickball

Riverside Market Renegades win Park and Rec league — The Riverside Market Renegades won the Bend Park & Recreation District Kickball League by defeating Variety Pack at Harmon Park on Tuesday night. Hot Lava beat Big Swinging Kicks to take third place in the league, which runs from June to August.

Running

COCC hosts inaugural Beat Beethoven 5K — Jason Townsend and Alta Ancalone were the first man and woman to beat Beethoven at the first Beat Beethoven’s 5th 5K race on Sunday at Central Oregon Community College, which challenged runners to cover the 3.1-mile course before Beethoven’s 33-minute fifth symphony concluded. No official times were kept as the main goal was to finish the course before the music stopped.

Soccer

Local teams compete at Mt. Hood Challenge — Several local teams were among the 546 teams from eight states and provinces that competed at the Mt. Hood Challenge in the Portland area Aug. 7 to 9. The Redmond Raptors U11 Boys, who competed in the Bronze (fourth-tier) Division at the tournament, won their first two games by a combined score of 16-0. The Raptors won their semifinal game 6-0 before falling to Three Rivers Soccer Club of Boise, Idaho, 3-2 in the final.

Special Olympics

High Desert fall registration now open — Registration forms and medical clearances for the fall Special Olympics season must be received by High Desert Special Olympics by Sept. 4. The local program offers aquatics, bowling, soccer and long distance running during the fall, though Special Olympians may only participate in one sport per season.
