A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports (all times Pacific):

Today

Most Popular

NFL football, Detroit at Seattle, 5:30 p.m. (ESPN): The Seahawks had some ground to make up after a 0-2 start, but the reigning NFC champions can get to .500 with a Monday Night Football victory over the winless Lions. Seattle will be without “Beast Mode” — star running back Marshawn Lynch — who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Tuesday/Wednesday

Major League Baseball wild card playoffs: American League, Houston at New York Yankees, 5 p.m. Tuesday (ESPN); National League, Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh, 5 p.m. Wednesday (TBS): One do-or-die game in each league determines which teams complete the brackets for the Division Series, which begin Thursday for the AL and Friday for the NL.

Friday

Prep football, Redmond at Summit, 7 p.m.: This matchup between the No. 3-ranked Panthers and the No. 7 Storm looks like the Intermountain Conference game of the season and could go a long way in determining the league champion. Both teams are coming off impressive wins: Redmond romped 40-7 at then-No. 1-ranked Bend, and Summit overpowered defending IMC champion Mountain View 55-3.

Saturday

College football, Oregon State at Arizona, 1 p.m. (FS1); Washington State at Oregon, 3 p.m. (Pac-12 Network): The Beavers and Wildcats face off in Tucson, where both teams will be looking for their first Pac-12 win. The Ducks will try to stay in contention in the Pac-12 North when they host the Cougars at Autzen Stadium.

Saturday

Men’s soccer, United States vs. Mexico at Pasadena, California, 6 p.m. (FS1): U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann has selected a veteran-laden squad for this match at the Rose Bowl, the winner of which earns a berth in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, the host of the 2018 World Cup. Mexico leads the all-time series 33-19-14, but the United States has won seven of the past nine competitive games on American soil stretching back to 2000.
