Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) will soon be in most of the Bend Police Department’s patrol fleet, according to Bend Police Lt. Clint Burleigh.
Thirty-two AEDs, which deliver a shock to the heart in the event of a cardiac arrest, were purchased with $42,295 in grant funding from the Helen Lorenz Foundation awarded in July through the Oregon Community Foundation.
Local public safety agencies have been training first responders in high-performance CPR, which emphasizes deep, consistent compressions as soon as possible.
“The idea is to get these out to the patrol fleet and have (them) available for when the emergencies happen,” Burleigh wrote in an email Tuesday.
