PRINEVILLE — Less than a week after suffering a five-point setback on the road to the No. 9 team in Class 4A, Crook County rebounded in dominant fashion on Thursday night.
The Cowboys put up 30 points in the first quarter and finished with 290 yards of offense — 285 rushing — on their way to a resounding 50-0 Tri-Valley Conference football win over visiting Madras.
“It was good that we came out firing,” Crook County coach Ryan Cochran said. “It was our senior night, so that was our focus: on us, getting back to establishing who we are, which we kind of got out of a little bit against Molalla (last Friday).”
Parker Lapsley ran for 40 yards and a touchdown and also returned a punt for a score to lead the Cowboys (2-1 TVC, 4-2 overall), who recorded their second shutout of the season.
Mason Cooley rushed for two touchdowns for Crook County, Cole Ovens ran for 73 yards and a score, and Brogan Howard and Blake Bartels each rushed for a touchdown.
Madras, which dropped to 0-3 in league play and 0-6 overall, hosts Molalla next Friday.
“Starting out in league with (a 38-31 win two weeks ago over) Gladstone, last year’s state champs, was our first steppingstone,” said Cochran. The Cowboys travel to Ridgefield (Washington) next Friday. “That’s going to be a good challenge for us. We’ve got to get better there and hopefully come out with a win to take into our last game at Estacada.”
