Norma Glenn Wiemer, of Redmond, Oregon, died on October 8, 2015, at the age of 91. She was born in St. Charles, Illinois, on June 11, 1924 to Robert R. and Myrtle Mae (Terwilliger) Glenn. She grew up in St. Charles and married her high school sweetheart, LaVerne (Verne) Wiemer on January 1, 1944. Verne served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. They lived in the St. Charles area until 1953, when they moved to a farm near Elburn, IL. The couple was blessed with three daughters, Lynn, Patti and Nancy, and a son, Joel.
In 1970, the family moved to Creswell, OR, where they lived until 1977. At that time, with the children all married, Norma and Verne moved to Central Oregon. Norma volunteered at the Community Kitchen and St. Francis thrift shop in Bend, and St. Vincent’s in Redmond. She was a homemaker most of her life, and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting, as well as cooking and baking, traveling, camping, reading, playing cards and spending time with her family..
She is survived by Verne, her husband of 71 years, of Redmond; daughters, Lynn Wolfe (Ted) of Bend and Nancy Houle (Ed) of Colorado Springs; son, Joel Wiemer (Julie), of Kooskia, ID; son-in-law, Gary Hellwege, of Tigard; sister, Julie Beebe, of Geneva, IL; eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patti Hellwege, and her sister, Dorothy Salnave.
Funeral Mass to be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, luncheon following. Contributions to St. Thomas Academy, Redmond, OR.
