Westside Wassail returns to Bend

Cold weather, hard cider and live music: It’s a winning combination if there ever was one. (Of course, some might argue cider goes with everything, but we digress.)

The Broken Top Bottle Shop & Ale Cafe knows this all too well. The cider will flow and the tunes will rock at the fourth annual Westside Wassail Cider and Music Festival, set to take place at the shop today through Sunday.

Local and regional cideries will give out free samples from 3 to 7 p.m. each day of the festival. Swift Cider, ATLAS Cider Company, 2 Towns Ciderhouse, Red Tank Cider, Far Afield Cider and Jester & Judge will all be represented.

The musicians slated to perform occupy a similar regional cross-section. Country-blues stompers Walk on Poor kicks off the festival tonight, while local duo Natty Red brings the acoustic rock Saturday; both bands play from 7 to 9 p.m. on their respective nights.

Sunday features an all-out blowout with Chico, California, string duo The Gnarly Pints taking the stage at 5:30 p.m. Then, Portland’s all-female rock trio Butterfly Breakdown — one of the highlights of September’s Bend Roots Revival — will close out the night with some pounding power trio soul.

There’s no tasting fee for the cider and no cover charge for the bands, so what are you waiting for?
