Cowboys 2nd after 1st day of North Bend tournament

NORTH BEND — With 11 of its 14 wrestlers advancing to the quarterfinals of their respective championship brackets, Crook County recorded 84 points on the first day of the North Bend Coast Classic wrestling tournament Friday night to head into the final day a half-point behind first-place Roseburg.
Terran Libolt posted back-to-back falls in the 132-pound bracket for the Cowboys, spending no more than 1 minute, 35 seconds on the mat in each match. Cole Ovens recording a 45-second fall in the second round at 160 for Crook County, which won this tournament last year, and 220-pounder Brogan Howard recorded a 47-second pin in the first round at 220.
Redmond is currently third at the 35-team tournament with 73 points. The Panthers advanced eight wrestlers to the quarterfinal round, including 170-pounder Mich Willett, who secured two straight falls in a combined time of 3:14. Jacob Dupuis advanced to the quarterfinals at 170 for Bend High, which is 19th after the first day of the tourney.

Bulldogs lead at invite: CULVER — Jaiden Jones recorded falls of 28 and 35 seconds to reach the 195-pound semifinals, leading a group of nine Culver wrestlers who advanced to the final four on the first day of the Culver Invitational. The Bulldogs head into today’s final day of competition atop the 18-team standings with 124 points. La Pine, which is third with 96 points, has four wrestlers in the semifinals, including 120-pounder David Kerr, who posted a fall in 30 seconds. Zach Lawson had first-period falls in each of his first two 132-pound matches for Crook County, which is seventh as a team and has four semifinalists, while Ridgeview, which is eighth, boasts Abraham Nonato (126) and Sean Hancock (220) in the semifinals. Parker Ford (106), Clayton Darst (170) and Mitch Gibney (220) each advanced to the semis for Sisters.

Bend 49, Sisters 47: SISTERS — The Lava Bears’ Mario Mora hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining, and a last-ditch heave from three-quarter court by the Outlaws’ Hayes Moore was just off the mark to preserve Bend’s nonconference win. Mora paced the Bears (1-2) with 18 points, while Cole Beaumarchais had 11 points. Steen Johnson totaled 14 points for Sisters (2-1), which took a one-point lead with 14 seconds left, and Moore finished with nine.
Ridgeview 48, Crater 43: CENTRAL POINT — George Mendazona scored 16 points and Austin Hampton added 10 for Ridgeview at the Crater Basketball Invitational. The Ravens (5-0) held Crater to just two first-quarter points. Ridgeview continues tournament play today against Eagle Point.
Mountain View 45, Dallas 30: DALLAS — Davis Holly scored 21 points, including four 3-pointers, as Mountain View pulled away for the win in the second half. The Cougars (2-1) outrebounded the Dragons 33-18.
La Pine 58, Ridgeview JV 44: LA PINE — Ian Johnson celebrated his birthday with 28 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to lead the Hawks (2-1). Andrew Bailey scored 13 points for the Ravens, while Jacob Edmondson added 12.
Central Christian 54, Trinity Lutheran 31: GILCHRIST — Bryson Eells hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 25 points as the Tigers opened their season with a win at the Gilchrist Tournament. Ford Veeder led the Saints (0-4) with 12 points. Both teams will continue play at the Gilchrist Tournament today.
Gilchrist 65, La Pine JV 37: GILCHRIST — The Grizzlies improved to 3-1 with a win at the Gilchrist Tournament. Gilchrist continues tournament play today.
Mitchell/Spray 50, North Lake 49: SILVER LAKE — The Cowboys were just 19-of-71 shooting as they fell in overtime at the North Lake Tournament. Nathan Gilbert had 26 points for North Lake, which continues tourney play today against Bonanza.

Century 68, Redmond 25: REDMOND — Jessica Toledo led Class 5A Redmond (2-2) with seven points and Ava Kitchin added six against the 6A Jaguars, who forced 36 turnovers.
Crater 60, Ridgeview 24: CENTRAL POINT — Ridgeview fell short on the road against Crater at the Crater Basketball Invitational. The Ravens (3-2) will face Eagle Point today in their second game of the tournament.
La Pine 50, Hidden Valley 44: GRANTS PASS — Riley Mickel scored 18 points for the visiting Hawks (2-1). Mickel also had five assists for La Pine, which held Hidden Valley to just four second-quarter points to take an 18-14 halftime lead. Alexis Roes added 12 points and four assists and Jordynn Slater grabbed 13 rebounds for the Hawks.
Trinity Lutheran 51, Central Christian 12: GILCHRIST — Emily Eidler scored 25 points, Mariah Murphy added 14, and the Saints of Bend cruised to a victory at the Gilchrist Tournament. Cheyenne Tinnell led the Tigers with four points. Both Trinity (3-1) and Central Christian (0-1) continue play at the tournament today.
Gilchrist 36, La Pine JV 18: GILCHRIST — Cassandra Blum scored 27 of the Grizzlies’ 36 points in a home win at the Gilchrist Tournament. Blum scored the first 12 points for Gilchrist (2-2), which continues tournament play today.
North Lake 32, Mitchell/Spray 21: SILVER LAKE — Kendra Murphy totaled 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals to lead the Cowgirls to a win at the North Lake Tournament. Raylee Hand chipped in with 10 rebounds and eight steals for North Lake, which continues the tournament today against Bonanza.
