Olympian Lea acknowledges positive doping test — Two-time Olympian Bobby Lea of the United States was suspended 16 months for doping Thursday after returning a positive test during the track cycling national championships earlier this year. Shortly after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency revealed the suspension, Lea said in a letter posted on his website that had taken the prescription painkiller Percocet to help him sleep. He did not realize it contains the substance oxycodone, which is banned during competition.

Faulkner Jr. wins PBA World Championship — Gary Faulkner Jr. won the Professional Bowlers Association World Championship on Thursday night in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to become the second black bowler to win a tour title. The 25-year-old Faulkner, from Memphis, Tennessee, beat top qualifier E.J. Tackett, of Huntington, Indiana, 216-178 in the final at the National Bowling Stadium. George Branham III is the only other black winner in tour history.

Wiggle It Jiggleit runaway pick for top harness horse — Wiggle It Jiggleit is harness racing’s Horse of the Year. The Little Brown Jug winner easily outdistanced Hambletonian winner Pinkman 130-3 in balloting among members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association. The results were announced on Thursday. Horse of the Year capped an awards hat trick for the colt. He was also crowned Pacer of the Year and champion 3-year-old Pacing Colt.
