Central Oregon Boy Scouts are gearing up for their annual Christmas tree pickup and recycling, set to begin the weekend of Jan. 2.

The Scouts request a donation of $5 to $8, which is used to fund troop activities, community service projects, and to replace camping gear and other supplies.

Troops will post door fliers indicating what day they will be in a given neighborhood to collect trees, either on Jan. 2 and 3, or on Jan. 8 and 9.

Bend and Redmond residents do not need to call ahead, and can leave their trees by the edge of the street on the day Scouts will be in their neighborhood, with a donation in a plastic bag secured to the tree with a rubber band.
