Deaths of note from around the world:

Robert Rosencrans, 89: A daring cable television industry pioneer who was instrumental in creating C-SPAN, the unfiltered public affairs network that faithfully covers government proceedings and civic events. Died Wednesday in Greenwich, Connecticut, from complications of a stroke.

David Huddleston, 85: A character actor best known for portraying titular roles in “The Big Lebowski” and “Santa Claus: The Movie.” Died Tuesday of advanced heart and kidney disease in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Fred Tomlinson, 88: A singer and arranger who led a troupe of vocalists on “Monty Python’s Flying Circus” and other British television shows. Died July 17. The announcement did not say where he died.

Steven LaTourette, 62: An Ohio Republican who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in his party’s 1994 sweep of the chamber and stepped down after nine terms, citing his frustration at rancorous partisanship. Died Wednesday at his home in McLean, Virginia, from pancreatic cancer.
