Editorial: A way to help the hungry

Central Oregon’s largest shelter for homeless men, women and families needs help from time to time. The Bethlehem Inn, with as many as 90 mouths to feed, cannot simply go to the store and stock up.

It’s traditionally more difficult to keep the pantry full in the summer months, according to an article in Tuesday’s Bulletin. Perhaps people get busy, or go on vacation or are otherwise distracted. The result is that the shelter’s supplies can run thin this time of year.

The pantry supplies churches and others. The meals include a continental breakfast, sack lunch and hot dinner — a total of about 70,000 meals per year.

If you’d like to help, a general list of what’s needed is on the shelter’s website, bethleheminn.org/donate/other-ways-to-give. But it’s always good to call first to ensure your donation matches its needs, 541-389-2820.
