Gilbert “Bud” Simonis passed away on August 5, 2016. He was born August 30, 1924, in Richland, Oregon, to Obie and Ruth Simonis.
Bud married Gloria Powers in Phoenix, Arizona, and later moved to and made their permanent home in Bend, Oregon. Bud and Gloria’s passions in life were horses and a 60 year career in the horse racing industry. In 1968, Bud started working for the Oregon Racing Commission as the Supervisor of Horse Racing. Bud served in the army in the South Pacific during World War II.
Bud was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Gloria. He is survived by his daughter, Sharron and Steve Loney, of Prineville, Oregon; grandson, James “Mike” Jones of Prineville, Oregon; granddaughter, Kimberley Sumner and husband, Chad of Malott, Washington; grandson, Ian Loney and wife, Angela of Bothel, Washington; two great-grandsons, Kash and Kruz Sumner of Malott, Washington; and many extended family members and friends.
