One BIG, SPOOKY Tailgate Party

On Halloween, the primary objective for most trick-or-treaters is to knock on as many doors as possible as quickly as possible to get as much candy as possible. But in a rural area where houses are widely spread out, trick or treating can be, well, tricky.

In Crooked River Ranch (CRR), a rural 10,000-acre community just north of Redmond with home sites ranging from one to 10 acres each, going house to house for Halloween is not terribly practical. Enter Trunk or Treat, the ranch’s annual tradition that offers trick-or-treaters a fun, safe, well-monitored place to celebrate Halloween … and to get lots of candy in a short period of time.

The CRR Events Committee began Trunk or Treat three years ago, and since then, Crooked River Realty has taken the lead as the title sponsor, with Crooked River Ranch Chapel also a top sponsor and the event’s host.

Each year, Trunk or Treat is a themed event (last year’s theme was pirates), and it now includes a carnival with games, a photo booth, pumpkin decorating and trick or treat bags. The entire celebration is free and open to everyone.

“It’s really a phenomenal event. We’ve had tremendous participation,” said Judy LaPora, Ranch Manager. “Hundreds of kids go through. This event is put on by a small army of volunteers who are integral to its success, and our other incredible events.”

Trunk or treat takes place from 3 – 5 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Crooked River Ranch Chapel parking lot, and the carnival is in the chapel’s Family Center from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. The evening includes a contest for best decorated vehicles. To participate in the contest, vehicles need to be registered ahead of time at Crooked River Realty or at the CRR Administration Office.
