State seeks bungee jumping operations

The state Parks and Recreation Department is soliciting bids from companies interested in operating a bungee jumping concession at the Peter Skene Ogden State Scenic Viewpoint between Redmond and Madras.

A recent pilot project which allowed bungee jumpers to leap from the old highway bridge above the Crooked River gorge was deemed a success, and that it did not detract from the park experience or driver safety on nearby U.S. Highway 97. Now, the state is looking for companies to continue the practice.

The initial contract could be as short as two years, with renewal options of up to 10 years. The state is continuing to investigate how bungee jumping may affect the area’s raptor population, which could require modifications to any contract.

Interested companies should first register with the state’s online procurement site, at orpin.oregon.gov/open.dll/welcome
