A man’s body was discovered Wednesday evening following a crash near the Parkway in Bend.
Police and rescue personnel responded at 6:15 p.m. to a reported accident northbound on the Parkway near NW Hawthorne Avenue, according to a Bend Police press release. A single vehicle had crashed into the BNSF rail line as the result of a medical problem. The accident itself caused no injuries, according to the press release.
While investigating the crash, however, officials discovered a body just south of the crash site lying in a depressed area between the Parkway and the rail line. According to Bend police, the man is 24-year-old Robert Michael McKinney, who does not have a permanent address in Bend. McKinney’s death does not appear to be the result of criminal activity, according to the police. However, they are seeking information about his whereabouts since Dec. 9. Anyone with such information should call Bend Police Officer Eric Russell at (541) 693-6911.
According to state court records, the Crook County district attorney charged McKinney on Dec. 4 with entering a motor vehicle in November with the intent to commit theft. McKinney was released from custody Nov. 11 and ordered to appear in court Dec. 6, according to court documents. A warrant for his arrest was issued in mid-December for failure to appear in court.
According to court documents, McKinney is from Joplin, Missouri.
