Drivers traveling west into Bend will need to slow down a bit sooner.

On Friday, the Oregon Department of Transportation reduced the speed limit on U.S. Highway 20 near Hamby Road from 55 to 45 mph. The 45-mph zone now starts 500 feet east of where the two roads intersect just outside of Bend.

In December, Mark Douglas Price, 48, of Bend was killed near the intersection when he tried to turn left from Highway 20 onto Hamby Road and was struck by a pickup truck traveling west.
