John Schuchman, 79: A Gallaudet University administrator and scholar who wrote and edited books about deaf people during the Holocaust and the portrayal of deaf people onscreen. Died Dec. 19 in Ashburn, Virginia, of cancer.
Wesla Whitfield, 70: A classically trained vocalist whose fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook were anything but standard. Died Friday in St. Helena, California.
Johann Johannsson, 48: An award-winning composer and producer who combined classical sounds and modern electronics on the acclaimed soundtracks to “The Theory of Everything” and “Sicario.” Found dead Friday in Berlin.
