PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Cassie Sharpe received to a score of 95.80 during her second run to give Canada its first Olympic medal in the event pioneered by the late Canadian star Sarah Burke.

Sharpe topped qualifying on Monday with a pair of big runs and went even higher in the finals. Her winning run included a 1080-degree spin and the kind of air the rest of the 12-woman field simply could not match.

France’s Marie Martinod added a second silver to go with the one she won in Sochi four years ago when the sport made its Olympic debut.

American Brita Sigourney edged teammate Annalisa Drew for bronze.

Germany, Canada share 2-man bobsled gold

Canada and Germany will share the two-man gold medal from the Pyeongchang Games. Justin Kripps and brakeman Alexander Kopacz gave Canada its second gold in a two-man event, while Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis gave Germany its fourth two-man win in the last five Olympics.

Latvia got bronze, with Oskars Melbardis and Janis Strenga finishing 0.05 seconds back.

Canadian duo win 3rd career ice dance gold

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won the gold medal in ice dancing at the Pyeongchang Games on Tuesday, becoming the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history.

Virtue and Moir scored a personal-best 122.40 points for a record 206.07 total, pushing them past training partners and close friends Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron in a riveting competition.
