Idrissa Ouedraogo, 64: his simple, carefully observed movies about cultural change in Burkina Faso and elsewhere in Africa brought him international acclaim and a top award at the Cannes International Film Festival. Died Feb. 18 in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, where he lived.
Peggy Cooper Cafritz, 70: an arts patron, civil rights activist, educator and saloniste. Died in Washington on Feb. 18 of complications of pneumonia.
